Recovery To Resilience Pop-Up
Recovery To Resilience is a pop-up exhibition and zine, curated by Natalie Willis Whylly for the IDB and DRM’s Symposium, From Recovery To Resilience: 7 Years After Dorian And Building A More Resilient Bahamas.
Employing a make-shift aesthetic, the pop-up is intended as a form of public engagement to highlight the contributions of the creative community to our collective processing and recovery after the passing of Hurricane Dorian.
Pop-up Exhibition
Utilising a temporary structure designed to be nomadic, with reproductions of work made or exhibited in the context of Dorian, the artworks selected draw attention to the importance of family archives, often lost in the aftermath of a storm’s passing. These archives, along with the oral histories and lived experiences of those lost to climate crisis events like Dorian, constitute an incalculable loss to culture and national identity.
Recovery To Resilience honours and recognises this loss in our contemporary efforts to rebuild and preserve our space.
From Recovery To Resilience Zine
This zine was created for the symposium as a way to highlight the creative community’s response and call to action after the storm. Including a poetry selection, photographs, and reflections prompts, the majority of which were sourced from creatives from the Northern Bahamas.
Public Syllabus
A zine or exhibition can only hold so much… To better highlight the wider cultural contributions of the creative community after the storm, I’ve started a curated public syllabus of writing, artworks, and archives for further investigation. As survivors, ours is the task of remembering as well as preserving what we have left for the precarious future we are rising to meet.
